REVIEW OF 40TH STREET PARK SOUTH OGDEN, UT

550 40th Street, South Ogden, UT 84403

This is a small wood chip based playground in a large park in South Ogden. The park amenities include a play structure, swings, covered picnic tables, benches, tennis courts, basketball courts and restrooms.

The main play structure is small but has quite a few different slides and lots of low elements suitable for kids as young as 2-5 years old. There is also a steering wheel, monkey bars, cork screw ladder and rings on the play structure.

Near the play structure in it's own wood chip base there are two sets of swings. There are 4 toddler bucket style swing and room for 6 regular swings. At the time of the review there were 2 regular swings missing.

It is of note that either the play structure or swings have sidewalks that connect them to the parking lots or road. You do have to walk through the grass to enter the playgrounds.

At the other end of the park near the parking lot there is a large covered pavilion with picnic tables and restrooms. The picnic tables and restrooms are wheelchair accessible from the parking lot. Our reviewers stated one of the things they dislike about this park is that the restrooms are so far away from the playground.*

There are also basketball courts and tennis courts near the parking lot with sidewalks that connect to these features.

*We are testing a new program for kids called Park Explorers where kids aged 5-16 get a list of possible parks to visit and a worksheet they fill in and color about the park; things like restrooms, benches, swings etc. They explore and take pictures of the parks to be added to our database and then are rewarded with a small prize for each completed park. All these pictures and the information provided came from our first park explorers in Ogden. I think they did an excellent job and I was told they enjoyed the experience and park exploration. I am excited for the program and hope it will continue to grow and encourage kids to get out and play in parks in our community.
