CAN YOU PLAY AT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PLAYGROUNDS DURING THE SUMMER??

The question is asked every year: Can you play at school playgrounds during the summer, weekends or school breaks? The short answer is YES.

Some of the most inclusive and fun playgrounds are at elementary schools.  We love to see families playing at school playgrounds. A great thing about elementary school playgrounds is the fact that most of them are fully fenced and far away from streets, so you can feel safe letting your kids run and play at them.

This is Weber School District's official statement.

"School Athletic Fields and Playfields are available to the residents of the community for unorganized recreational activity when school is not in session."

A lot of the playgrounds have these new signs with additional rules posted on the playground fences.

Ogden School District's rules are a little less clear and this is their official statement given to Weber County Playgounds in 2019:

Ogden School District does not invite or welcome public use of playgrounds outside of students enrolled in the school during recess. However, Ogden School District does not actively restrict access to the school playgrounds outside of the use by school students as described above.

The inclusion of Ogden School District properties on this website does not constitute an invitation for public use. Any individuals entering these properties or using these facilities accept all liability.

In 2020, I reached out the Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind to see if the public was welcome to play at their private playgrounds during non-school hours. After a couple months of requests and policy  searches they concluded that yes, the public is allowed to play on their playgrounds during non-school hours.
