REVIEW OF MARQUART PARK, OGDEN, UT

Marquardt Park
3240 Taylor Ave Ogden, UT 84403

This is one of Ogden's newest renovated playgrounds in Ogden, put in 2017. It is rated for 5-12 year olds and has a lot of fun features for climbing and balancing. This playground is on a large wood chip base, very common in Utah. It has a separate area for swings with 2 regular and 2 infant/toddler swings under a sand base. The sand base is scheduled to be replaced soon with wood chips.

When we went to Marquardt park on a Monday around lunchtime there were 2 other moms and kids (preschool and toddler ages). We stayed about 45 minutes at this park and when we left there were 2 more moms that arrived. Our kids aged five kids ranging from 2 to 5 years old enjoyed this park, each in different ways. The 5 year olds had fun walking across the vertical "bridge" thing to and from the small slide. The 2 and 4 year olds enjoyed the rock wall climbing feature and the oval hanging thing near the back of the park.

Not surprisingly, after the kids explored the playground they enjoyed playing in the nearby stream area (although currently dry) and wooded area near the water culver. This park has walking trail access in the park as well as barbecue grills, a pavilion and a small parking lot.

One of the major negatives to this park is the bathroom facilities. Although it does have two separate gender restrooms, they are quite old and dilapidated. The women's restroom was dirty with stained toilets and rust stained sink. None of the stalls had bolt locks on the door and the doors did not stay closed. There were no paper towels or paper towel holder near the sink nor was there any soap or dispenser. If you need to use the restroom while at the park I would suggest going to Mount Ogden park nearby and using their facilities.

There also is a parking lot at Marquardt park but it is a single lane access and only accommodates a few cars. When I arrived at the park I did see the entrance, but it was kind of hard to tell if it was a road to the parking lot or just a paved walking path because it was so narrow. Upon further inspection I realized it was a road but after turning in I had to back out onto Taylor Ave because there was a car trying to exit the parking lot. There is lots of marked parking spots on street on Taylor Ave and in the neighboring Mt. Ogden park lot.

My kids favorite feature of this park is the trimmed "hidden" passageway through trees to neighboring Mount Ogden Park. Even as an adult it was pretty magical. There is a oval shaped entrance through some bushes and in the passageway there are some low trees that have trimmed to be able to play underneath them. It is a great place to play in nature in and explore in shade especially in the hot summertime.

Pros:

- new play structure for 5-12 year olds with lots of monkey bar, climbing structures and slides.

- separate slide area with 4 swings

- trail access and lots of wooded areas to explore

- lots of grassy area with a soccer field nearby

- bush/tree trimmed passageway to neighboring park

-partially shaded playground from nearby trees

- covered pavilion, barbecue grills and park benches near playground

Cons:

- restrooms are old and do not have stalls with locks or access to soap or paper towels.

- no adaptive swings or handicapped accessible features

- not suitable for toddlers

- parking lot access is small and only one car at a time can enter/exit
