REVIEW OF UINTAH ELEMENTARY, SOUTH OGDEN, UT

6115 S 2250 E Ogden, UT 84403
There are two wood chip based playgrounds at this elementary school in South Ogden, UT. Playground amenities include 2 play structures, merry go round, spring see saw, Aeroglider rocker, basketball hoops, black top area with line games and grass fields.

Playground #1

The first playground is located behind the school on the South side. This playground is on a pour in place rubber surfacing and features a wheelchair accessible/inclusive play structure. This playground was purchased and installed by the Weber County School Foundation. It is similar to their other playgrounds they installed with the bright primary colored play structure with lots of ramps and sensory panels as well as other elements like the merry go round, balance beam and stepping stones.

The play structure features 3 slides, fireman pole, four steering wheels, lots of interactive/sensory and learning panels, stepping stones, balance beam, ladder, open stepping bridge and wheelchair ramp.

We love all the attention to the interactive panels on these playgrounds.

On the playground there is an inclusive merry go round that can be spun from the ground or on the merry go round by turning the yellow metal top.

These are my kids' favorite merry go rounds and a big favorite with kids under 5 years old.

This spring "see-saw" is a fun addition to the playground also.

Playground #2

The second playground is also behind the school to the North side. This playground is on a sand/gravel base and features a play structure rated for 5-12 yr olds, wheelchair accessible Aeroglider rocker, all metal monkey bars and rock climbing wall with slide.

The play structure is rated for 5-12 yr olds and features 4 slides, monkey bars, graduated step ladder, curved ladder, bridge learning panels and stairs for access.

Next to the play structure is a large "rock" climbing wall with a built in slide. Both sides have hand and foot holds and it can accommodate a lot of children at once.

Next to the rock wall there is also some older all metal monkey and climbing bars. My guess is that these are original to the school.

The sand playground also includes a wheelchair accessible AeroGlider rocker which can accommodate up to 12 kids including a wheelchair or two. Note: this is the only wheelchair accessible item on this playground.

The Aeroglider has a ramp that goes directly from the black top area on to the playground. On the ramp there is also 3 sensory panels including bells, drums and a horn panel (that does not work currently).

Between the two playgrounds is a large black top area with lines for ball games and two basketball hoops.

There is access to the playground from the front on the school on 2250 E or from the back of the playgrounds on Eastwood Blvd where there is a break in the fence. On Eastwood Blvd there is a sign stating the hours and rules of the playground.

Pros:

- 2 separate playgrounds with different styles and uses

- wheelchair accessible ramps on both playgrounds

- rubber surfacing on the inclusive playground

- merry go round

- two access points

Cons:

- no public restrooms

- no shade on playgrounds

- not available for public use during school hours
