ADVOCACY IN ACTION: OGDEN CITY ADA ACCESSIBLE SWINGS

Today I talked on the phone with the parks director in Ogden City, and he had some great news to share with everyone. Because of Weber County Playgrounds advocacy efforts, Ogden city purchased and just installed 4 brand new ADA accessible swings for Ogden City parks.

The swings have been installed in Lorin Farr Park (picture above), and the three newest playgrounds Bonneville Park, Mount Lewis Park and Monroe Park. We have updated the current playground list on this site to include all the new adaptive (ADA accessible) swings in each city and hope to get new pictures taken next week. This brings the current number of parks with ADA accessible swings in Weber County to 7 (not including the broken ones taken out of West Haven and one purchased but not installed yet in Riverdale Park).

We are still looking for sponsors and/or donations to fulfill our goal of at least 1 swing in every Weber County city (a total of 16). With the help of another volunteer, we have created sponsorship packets that can be given to individuals or companies who would like to help sponsor a swing for their city. The company or individual will have their name and logo, if they want, on a metal plaque attached to the back of the swing and recognized on the Weber County Playground site permanently.

In addition to these swings, Ogden city is also putting in wheelchair accessible sidewalks to a few more playgrounds later this fall.

If you think this is great and want to thank Ogden City for their efforts to be more inclusive, you can email the parks director at Montestewart@ogdencity.com.
