REVIEW OF SAND RIDGE PARK ROY, UT

2100 W 4475 S Roy, UT 84067

This is a wood chip based playground at a park in Roy, Utah. Park amenities include a play structure, swings, covered picnic tables, baseball diamond, grass ball fields and restrooms.

This park is right next to Roy High School. It is stated on Roy's website that this park is owned by Weber School District and the ball fields are only allowed for public use during the summer when school is not in session. Unlike other Weber School District playgrounds, you are not allowed to use the field on evenings and weekends because it is the playing and practice fields for the high school sports. We did not see any signs that stated this on the fields or at the park.

It is unclear as to whether the playground is only allowed for public use during non-school hours. When we visited on a weekday at lunchtime, there was another family with a young child on the playground as well as Roy High School students in the fields, on the playground and in the restrooms during their lunch hour.

On the playground there is a large play structure rated for kids 5-12 years old. It features 4 slides, multiple monkey bars, plastic rock stairs, chain ladder, tunnel, vertical climbers and stairs for access.

The long tall slide is a favorite and is pretty fast especially for light children.

The playground also features swings. There are 4 regular swings and room for 2 infant/toddler swings. There is currently only 1 toddler swing available as one is missing. During the day the swings are shaded by nearby trees.

At the park there are covered picnic tables, trash cans, restrooms and a closed club house near the playground.

Pros:

- large 5-12 play structure

- restrooms available and near playground

- swings in shade

Cons:

- ball fields only available during summer for public use

- playground can be crowded with high school students during breaks and lunch

- playground not wheelchair accessible

  1. The playground equipment was removed in mid-2022. The area will become a sports field, possibly soccer.
