UPDATED REVIEW OF GRANDVIEW PARK, OGDEN, UT

3815 Jackson Ave Ogden, UT 84403

There is  a wood chip based and a shredded rubber chip playground at this newly renovated park in Ogden, UT. Grandview park includes a children's playground, a separate area for adult exercise equipment, a covered pavilion with picnic tables, drinking fountain and a restroom. Also at the park is a baseball diamond and soccer fields, a few shade trees including one over the playground and lots and lots of grass.

There is a parking lot with approximately 20 parking stalls at the south end of the park off of Jackson Ave. There is also quite a few places for on street street parking on Jackson Ave. Access to the playground is by a large staircase or through the grass at the parking lot (no connecting sidewalk all the way to the pavilion).

Playground #1:

This children's playground at Grandview Park includes a wooden play structure with a slide and fireman pole, a large rope climbing structure, merry go round, three single spinners, two sets of swings, two spring riders and a small playhouse for ages 2-5 yrs

Part of the playground is specifically designed for younger kids and rated for 2-5 year olds. In this corner is a playhouse on the ground level with musical instruments on each side and house elements like a clock and a bell along with windows with sills that are ideal for imaginative play.

Next to the play house there are two spring riders that look like some sort of insect (maybe a grasshopper or bee?). These are favorites among the younger kids. Even my 8 year old had to test it out and deemed it fun and springy.

One thing we really love about this playground made by Kompan, a Danish playground manufacturer, is the natural wood and rope elements. It is made from an untreated Robinia wood, which is known for its natural preservatives and lasts a lot longer than other traditional woods like oak or cedar. You will notice there are some cracks in the wood, which is totally normal and does not affect it's strength in the long term.

Did I mention there is a merry go round at this park?? While small, this is a great element at the park and promotes cooperation among kids.

The large rope climbing structure is similar to the one at Burch Creek Park. It has many access points and ladders and ropes to climb.

There is a double set of swings at this park, two regular swings and currently one baby/toddler swing. We would love to see an accessible swing added in the empty spot.

The "main" play structure in the playground has a slide, rope spider web, wooden bridge, stairs, rope access climber and a fireman's pole.

There are three single spinners in the playground, two bowl type spinners higher off the ground that are slightly crooked (on purpose) that go incredibly fast, and a shorter wooden flat spinner under the shade tree. Small children may appreciate the short, almost ground level spinner that spins a lot slower.

'Playground' #2

A separate area next to the pavilion is dedicated to adult exercise equipment. This is the second newly installed adult exercise area by Kompan this year. The other is at Orchard Park in Ogden, UT, not far away.

The area has a shredder rubber chip base and has  a multifunctional ring area with 14 different exercises you can use it for a pull up and sit up station and an exercise bike.

One thing I really appreciate about this piece of equipment is the pictures of how to do the exercises and shows which muscles it targets. They are easy for follow and have QR codes you can scan for more directions.

This area is specifically designed for teenagers and adults 13+. With the exception of the exercise bicycle, most of the exercises could be done by smaller children with supervision. I love that this area is so close to the playground that I could work out and still watch my kids nearby play.

Overall, this is a fabulous addition to the Ogden parks. It has almost all the elements of a great playground in my opinion. I do wish it had more inclusive or wheelchair accessible elements in the playground.

But what did the smaller Weber County Playground testers (my 2 boys 8 and 10 yrs old) think of this playground?? They both gave this playground 2 thumbs up! We spent about an hour at this playground on a Sunday afternoon in September 2024 and had to be dragged away to have lunch. The younger kid loved the spring riders, the rope climber and the swings. The older kid spent a lot of time getting dizzy on the bowl spinners, pushing his brother on the merry go round and jumping off the swings. Both kids were intrigued by the exercise equipment but it lasted approximately 2 sit ups and they were off again to the kids playground. Both have requested to play on this playground instead of the 40th Street Park playground we go to after church on Sundays.
